Water at Lake Hunter Being Tested After Wastewater Incident

City of Lakeland officials are testing the water at Lake Hunter after a grease blockage led to about 350 gallons of raw wastewater pooling near the lake Friday afternoon.

The incident was discovered at 12:58 p.m. and reported to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. The grease blockage caused a manhole to fill up and raw wastewater to gather around the cover at 95 Lake Hunter Drive.

The blockage was cleared at 1:35 p.m.

According to an alert from the city of Lakeland, the potentially-affected area drains toward a storm drain that leads to Lake Hunter. People should refrain from swimming in the water until testing can be completed.
