Longtime Polk environmental engineer to retire

By the time the finishing touches are completed on the parking lot and picnic area at Lake Gwyn Park in Wahneta, the environmental engineer who was in charge of the park's design and development will have headed out the door at Polk County Parks and Natural Resources for the last time.

Bob Kollinger, who began his engineering career 35 years ago overseeing inspection of drinking water systems for the Polk County Health Department, will retire Friday as Polk County's water resource manager.

"It's a very critical position; we're advertising for a successor,'' said Jeff Spence, Polk's director of parks and natural resources, who called Kollinger "multi-talented and creative'' for his ability to secure grants for projects and to design them in interesting ways.
