It’s time to give our surroundings a spring cleaning.

The Great American Cleanup is coming for the 29th year in Polk County.

The cleanup, which was once scheduled during a short period each spring now stretches from March through May, giving participants plenty of flexibility in planning their projects.

The annual event, sponsored locally by Keep Polk County Beautiful, is designed to encourage residents to get out into their neighborhood, their favorite park or just a neglected roadside somewhere and pick up the garbage.

The first 2,500 volunteers who pre-register will receive a free T-Shirt and ticket to Bok Tower Gardens while supplies last. Cleanup volunteers are provided with garbage bags, gloves and safety vests.

Groups whose projects requires a large trash container or a beautification project should make their request in writing to KPCB office at least two weeks before the event.
