USF Hosts Climate Change Conference

The University of South Florida's new School of Global Sustainability will hold a major conference featuring some of the world's leading researchers in climate change, the environment and health.

The conference events, which will be powered through the purchase of renewable energy and whose carbon footprint will be offset, are Feb. 11 and Feb. 12 in the Oval Theater at the Marshall Student Center.

The program is free and open to the public.

Speakers include Lonnie Thompson, an Ohio State University researcher and director of the Byrd Polar Research Center who has studied retreating glaciers. He was an advisor for the documentary "An Inconvenient Truth."

USF researchers will have a panel discussion on climate change and rising sea levels.

The event is the first major conference sponsored by USF's School of Global Sustainability, which will admit its first students this year.
