More Lakes' Access Sought

Polk County's population has grown by more than 100,000 over the past decade. That growth is taking a toll on the county's lakes. Although Polk County has about 500 lakes, fewer than 100 of them have public access. The population growth is causing some of the same kinds of congestion problems on the waterways that it's causing on the roadways. That's where the Polk County Lake Access Advisory Committee comes in. The committee was formed last summer at the urging of County Commissioner Jean Reed. David Hupp, a Winter Haven angler, is the chairman.
