The Lake Annie Project was designed to improve the ecological structure of a 168-acre property in Dundee, Florida. The project includes improvements to historically peat mined land and uplands on the site. The land was purchased by Polk County in 2022. Through this project the County will improve habitat quality through the recontouring of relic mining features, treatment of exotic and invasive vegetation, and replanting of native vegetation. Due to its history as a peat mine, the property is primarily perimeter berms surrounding multiple wetland cells of varying depths. Scattered throughout the wetlands are also several spoil pile remnants. The general intent of the construction is to remove the spoil piles, replant sections with desirable vegetation, improve access by improving the perimeter berms, and increase flushing activity by enhancing inflows and outflows |
