Circle B Bar Reserve is the flagship wetland restoration, water quality improvement, and recreational opportunity project in Polk County. The County and the Southwest Florida Water Management District acquired Circle B Bar Reserve (1,267 acres) in 2000 to protect the valuable water and wildlife resources and to restore the Banana Creek marsh system. The site lies along the Banana Lake Canal capturing high nutrient flows before discharging to Lake Hancock. The project had many partners in order to succeed including the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, the Peace River Basin Board, the Florida Department of Transportation, U. S. EPA, and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. |
